Cruising through the Norwegian Fjords with 185 members of Rory’s Travel Club
Blog

We spent 7 days on Queen Mary 2, with 185 members of Rory’s Travel Club, cruising through the Norwegian Fjords and this is what we got up to.

We boarded Queen Mary 2 in Southampton on the Sunday at around 1pm. The boarding was seamless and quick, very like the process you would go through at the airport. We sailed away from Southampton with the sun shinning down and made our way toward Norway. Our boarding cards had our room number on them and when we arrived outside our room sat our luggage and key cards. We went for an inside cabin, the cheaper option onboard but we felt this was perfect for us as we wouldn’t be spending that much time in our room! The cabin was spacious and the bed was very comfortable.

Our first full day onboard was a sea day! This meant we had the whole day to figure out our way around the ship & explore everything Cunard has to offer. We spent our day finding our way around the ship, playing games of bingo, watching a show in a huge theatre, catching the most amazing sunset and of-course ordering the FREE room service!

We had 3 incredible stops on the cruise - Skjolden, Olden & Bruges. In Skjolden we explored the little village, walked Lamas, stocked up on our supplies for the fridge in our cabin & seen so many beautiful waterfalls! We had a good 5-6 hours at each stop, plenty of time to explore.

Our time in Olden was incredible. We didn’t book any excursions, we hopped off the ship and straight onto a hop on & off bus. It was a 1 hour round trip and cost €20 each. The views of waterfalls and glaciers are like nothing we’ve ever seen before. Of course we picked up a few fridge magnets before jumping back onto the ship.

After each day of exploring, we would quickly change into swimwear and jump into one of the 4 hot tubs on the rear of the ship. The perfect seat to watch the ship sail away. If you’re visiting Olden via Cruise, make sure to watch the sail away! A little restaurant at the port plays music and waves, an incredible experience.

Cruises are very underrated, we are going to struggle to travel the traditional way after our time on Queen Mary! You can’t beat lying in bed and waking up in a new location. We didn’t get sea sick or have sea legs after our trip. I mean it when I say this, we never quit eating. From buffet breakfast & lunch, to afternoon tea and FREE room service 24/7! The food was incredible. Everyday, there was endless things to do and see, we would have needed to stay onboard for a few weeks to get around it all.

We laughed the entire time and met some incredible people from all walks of life. One lady told us Rory’s Travel Club had made her feel alive again after she lost her husband a few years ago. The people going on these group trips are all like minded, they want to travel more and make incredible memories because they know, life is too short. This is your sign to join Rory’s Travel Club, and start living life.
