The Intolerant Food Company Reviews Lough Eske Food Allergy Approach
Blog

A Safe Haven For Coeliac Travellers

From the moment you arrive, it is clear that Lough Eske Castle takes food allergies seriously rather than treating them as an afterthought. Breakfast includes a clearly separated gluten free area with its own toaster, dedicated gluten free bread, and clearly stored products to minimise any risk of cross contamination. Throughout the day, staff check in proactively about coeliac disease, double‑checking ingredients and preparation methods so you can relax and enjoy your stay.

Menus That Work For Everyone

Gallery Bar, the menu is clearly marked with symbols to show which dishes can be adjusted to suit different allergies and intolerances. That meant I could order a classic burger and have it served on a gluten free bun with lactose free cheese, without losing any of the flavour or indulgence of the original dish. The key point for coeliac travellers is that you are not pushed into a “special” section of the menu, instead, existing dishes are flexibly adapted so you can enjoy the same great food as everyone else.

Cedars Restaurant, the experience is elevated even further, as the whole menu can be adjusted for food allergies and intolerances. Starters, mains and sides were all explained carefully, and every course could be adapted for coeliac needs, from rich meat dishes to beautifully prepared seafood. It never felt like I was compromising; it felt like fine dining that just happened to be safe.

Staff Who Truly Understand Allergies

What sets Lough Eske Castle apart for coeliac travellers is the confidence and knowledge of the team. Servers clearly understand cross contamination, check orders thoroughly with the kitchen, and take time to explain how each dish is prepared. That level of understanding removes the usual anxiety that can come with eating out when you have coeliac disease, and it means you can enjoy the same variety and quality of food as any other guest.

From The Intolerant Food Company

The Intolerant Food Company, where we are passionate about making food enjoyable and safe for people living with coeliac disease and other intolerances. If you would like to see more about what we do, you can find us on Instagram at @ntlrntfoodco. Based on my experience, we are delighted to award Lough Eske Castle our very first 5 Star NTLRNT Food Rating, and I would happily choose it again over any similar hotel that does not cater so well for food allergies and intolerances.
