I stayed at Kilronan Castle back in 2025, and it's still one of the best hotel stays I've had in Ireland.

The hotel itself is absolutely stunning. From the moment you drive up to the castle, it feels like somewhere special. The building has loads of character, but inside it's comfortable, modern and finished to a really high standard. It's the sort of place where you can completely switch off for a couple of days.

The room was spacious, the food was excellent, and the staff were friendly without being over the top. One of my favourite parts of the stay was spending time in the spa. After a busy few weeks, it was exactly what I needed, and it made the whole experience even more relaxing.

While I was staying in Roscommon, I also visited the Arigna Mining Experience. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but it turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip. The guided tour takes you underground into the old coal mine, and hearing the stories from former miners really brings the place to life. It's fascinating, well worth doing, and gives you a real appreciation for the area's history.

Looking back, what made the trip memorable wasn't just the castle itself but the combination of great accommodation, good food, a chance to relax, and exploring a part of Ireland that I'd never really spent time in before.

If you're planning a trip to County Roscommon, I'd definitely recommend spending a night or two at Kilronan Castle and making time for the Arigna Mining Experience as well. It made for a brilliant few days away, and I'd happily go back.
