Finding Adventure at 61: Charlotte’s Rory’s Travel Club Experience
Blog

At 61 and hailing from Wicklow, Charlotte has discovered a new passion for solo travel through Rory’s Travel Club and hasn’t looked back. Her experiences highlight how the club’s organised group trips offer the perfect balance of adventure, camaraderie, and security for solo travellers. Here’s what she had to say:

Q: How did you first hear about Rory’s Travel Club, and how long have you been a member?
I discovered Rory’s Travel Club last year through a Facebook post. It immediately caught my attention, and I decided to give it a try. I’ve only been on one trip so far to Sri Lanka, but what an experience it was!

Q: What inspired you to join Rory’s Travel Club?
As a solo traveller, I was drawn to the idea of travelling with other like-minded people. Being divorced, I wanted to explore new places but felt apprehensive about going on my own. The club offered a perfect solution—travelling solo yet never feeling alone.

On the trip, I found that everyone got on so well, regardless of age. People in their 30s and 40s bonded effortlessly, and there was such a supportive atmosphere. Travelling with the group felt safe and inclusive, which is key to making solo adventures enjoyable.

Q: What do you enjoy most about being part of Rory’s Travel Club?
The best part is the organisation. Everything is planned for you, so there’s no stress. The WhatsApp group Rory sets up before the trip is brilliant—it starts about two weeks before departure, giving everyone time to ask questions and connect. Rory was always available to answer queries, which made us feel at ease.

On the trip itself, we felt safe, secure, and incredibly well looked after. It was amazing to have so many activities arranged that I wouldn’t have thought of doing myself.

Q: How many trips have you taken, and which has been your favourite so far?
So far, I’ve only been on one trip with Rory’s Travel Club, to Sri Lanka, and it was out of this world. Everything about it was exceptional—the driver, the guide, and the co-pilot went above and beyond to make the trip unforgettable.

I’ve been raving about the experience ever since I got back. In fact, seven of my cousins have joined the club because of my glowing recommendation!

Q: What were the highlights of your Sri Lanka trip?
Honestly, it’s impossible to pick just one highlight. The entire trip was fantastic from start to finish. Every aspect exceeded my expectations, and I couldn’t fault a single thing. It was a dream holiday that I’d recommend to anyone.

Q: Do you have any Rory’s Travel Club trips planned for 2025?
Yes! I’m heading to Japan next week with my cousin, and later this year, I’ve booked a guided tour of India in September and a trip to Thailand in November. Some of the friends I made on the Sri Lanka trip are reuniting for the Thailand adventure, which I’m really excited about.

Q: What advice would you give to solo travellers considering joining Rory’s Travel Club?
My advice? Take the plunge! Everything is organised for you, so there’s no need to worry about the logistics. The WhatsApp group is fantastic for connecting with others beforehand, and once you’re on the trip, people will always include you.

Travelling solo might seem daunting at first, but it’s a decision you’ll never regret. Don’t sit around waiting, get out there and explore the world.

Q: Would you recommend Rory’s Travel Club to others? Why?
Absolutely, I highly recommend it. Rory’s trips are so affordable, you save at least €300 on each trip compared to other options in the South of Ireland. That extra saving can go towards your meals or other travel expenses, making it a fantastic bargain.

I’d also love it if Rory added guides to all trips, even if it meant charging a little more. Having off-the-beaten-track adventures with everything planned is my favourite way to travel.

Final Thoughts
Charlotte’s story is a testament to the incredible experiences and opportunities that Rory’s Travel Club offers. Whether you’re a regular solo traveller or someone looking to take their first step into group travel, the club provides a safe, inclusive, and affordable way to explore the world.

Charlotte has already ticked off Sri Lanka and has her sights set on Japan, India, and Thailand in 2025. Why not follow her lead and join Rory’s Travel Club for your next adventure? As Charlotte says “Don’t be afraid and take the plunge—you won’t regret it!”
