Eileen, a 59-year-old from Dublin, has embraced the magic of group travel with Rory’s Travel Club. As a seasoned traveller with a wealth of experience, she shares her story, offering insights into why the club has become her go-to for unforgettable adventures.
Q: How did you first hear about Rory’s Travel Club, and how long have you been a member?
I’ve been a member of both the regular membership and the group trip membership for over a year now. I first came across Rory’s Travel Club through social media specifically Facebook. It caught my eye because it felt like a perfect fit for my travel needs.
Q: What inspired you to join Rory’s Travel Club?
I’ve travelled extensively over the years and even joined group trips with other agencies, like America Adventure Women. However, I always felt that travelling with an Irish group would be even better—it adds a sense of familiarity and shared culture.
Previously, the group trips I joined had a maximum of ten people, so joining Rory’s Travel Club and travelling with such a large group, 35 people on my trip to Sri Lanka was a completely new experience. I was curious but also a bit apprehensive about how it would work. But let me tell you it was fantastic!
Q: What do you enjoy most about being part of Rory’s Travel Club?
The blend of independence and connection is what makes it stand out. You can explore on your own but also have the option to link up with others when you feel like it. For someone like me, who enjoys a mix of solo and social experiences, it’s perfect.
The trips are so well-organised, everything from transfers to excursions is seamlessly planned. You’d never be able to fit in so much or organise it all on your own. Every day on the trip just kept getting better and better.
I also value the flexibility. If you want to opt out of an activity, that’s completely fine. And for me, paying the extra supplement for my own room was worth it, I loved having my own space while still enjoying the group dynamic.
Q: How many offers have you availed of, and what has been your favourite travel experience so far?
So far, I’ve availed of one offer, the group trip to Sri Lanka and it was truly incredible. I have a trip to Istanbul booked for 2025 and am considering the Switzerland group trip as well. Fiji is also on my wish list for this year.
Q: What were the highlights of your Sri Lanka trip?
Oh, there were so many! The sunrise hike was breathtaking, and the safari was an unforgettable experience. Every day was jam-packed with activities—from visiting a gemstone mine to exploring local sights. If you’re travelling that far, you want to make the most of every moment, and this trip certainly delivered.
Q: What advice would you give to others, especially solo travellers, who are considering joining Rory’s Travel Club?
It can feel daunting at first, but it’s important to remember that everyone is in the same boat. There’s this stigma around solo travel, but in reality, it’s an incredible achievement to take that leap of faith.
You don’t have to wait for friends or family, you can go on your own and still have an amazing time. In fact, being solo makes it easier to make friends on the trip. When you travel with someone, you often stick to them, but when you’re on your own, you connect more easily with others.
Another thing to remember is how affordable the group trips are. Many of these destinations would be far too expensive to visit alone, but the club makes it possible.
Finally, the mix of age groups is fantastic. On my trip, there were people ranging from 21 to 76, and it was wonderful to meet such a diverse group of like-minded individuals.
Q: Would you recommend Rory’s Travel Club to others? If so, why?
Absolutely! I love that it’s an Irish company - you meet local people, and many of those friendships extend beyond the trips. I’ve already stayed in touch with several people I met through the club, and we’ve even reconnected outside of group trips.
I’m excited for more adventures in 2025, and I can’t wait to see where the next journey takes me!
Final Thoughts
Eileen’s story showcases the confidence, freedom, and joy that come with being part of Rory’s Travel Club. Whether you’re a seasoned solo traveller or someone looking to take your first leap into group adventures, her advice is simple: don’t hesitate. The club offers a unique blend of independence, community, and affordability, making every trip an unforgettable experience.
