When a family chooses to return to the same holiday destination for a second consecutive year, you know they've found something special.
Thanks to a Rory's Travel Club offer, one of our members enjoyed a family holiday at Domaine des Ormes in September 2025 with their partner and three children aged 7, 6 and 5. Having already visited the resort the previous year, they knew what to expect. However, somehow the experience was even better the second time around.
Their verdict?
"Absolutely amazing."
A Family Resort That Keeps Everyone Happy
One of the biggest challenges when travelling with young children is finding a destination that genuinely caters to the whole family. According to our member, Domaine des Ormes gets that balance exactly right.
"The facilities are brilliant," they told us.
With adventure playgrounds, cycling routes, swimming pools, activities, open spaces and family entertainment spread throughout the estate, there was always something happening. More importantly, there was always something to keep three energetic young children occupied.
Even during quieter periods, boredom simply wasn't an issue.
Why They Recommend Visiting Off-Peak
While many families automatically look at school holiday dates, our member believes September is one of the best times to visit.
The biggest advantage? Space.
The pools, bars and activity areas were noticeably quieter, creating a much more relaxed atmosphere for both parents and children.
"The pool and bars were amazing and very quiet."
There is one trade-off worth noting. During off-peak periods, some seasonal activities such as the kids' club may not operate.
For this family, however, that wasn't a major drawback.
"The kids' club was closed, but there was still so much to do that it really wasn't an issue."
The Day Trip the Kids Couldn't Stop Talking About
While Domaine des Ormes was the centrepiece of the holiday, one excursion stood out above all others: A visit to Mont-Saint-Michel.
Years later, it remains one of the children's strongest memories from the trip.
"The kids talked about it all year."
The family drove to the visitor car park before making the scenic walk to the island. The round trip was approximately 4–5 kilometres, but the route is flat, safe and easy for children.
As the famous abbey gradually comes into view, it feels like stepping into a fantasy world.
"The kids thought it was like Hogwarts."
For families staying at Domaine des Ormes, Mont-Saint-Michel is an absolute must-see and one of the most memorable day trips available anywhere in France.
A Ferry Adventure of Their Own
Sometimes it's the simplest experiences that children remember most.
For this family, Irish Ferries' ferry journey from Dublin to Cherbourg became part of the adventure.
"The ferry was great for the kids, they loved the ferry over."
Whether it's watching the water, spotting boats, or simply enjoying the excitement of travelling somewhere new, the crossing added another layer of fun to the holiday experience.
Exploring the Local Area
Although Domaine des Ormes offers more than enough activities to fill an entire week, the surrounding area is also worth exploring.
The family discovered several charming Breton towns within easy driving distance, such as Combourg, Dol-de-Bretagne and Tinténiac. These smaller communities offered a chance to experience authentic French village life away from the larger tourist destinations.
Each had its own local boulangeries and pâtisseries, making morning bakery runs part of the holiday routine.
Fresh pastries, warm bread and local treats quickly became a family favourite.
Staying with KelAir Campotel
For accommodation, the family stayed with KelAir Campotel and were extremely pleased with both the chalet and the service provided.
The chalet offered plenty of space for a family of five, while the private barbecue became a welcome feature during the evenings.
"Lovely chalet and a great company to work with."
Having the option to cook and dine outdoors added flexibility to the holiday and helped keep costs down compared with eating out every day. Having the towns close to hand also worked really well for getting supplies for family meals.
Food and Dining
The family noted that food options for off-peak season were somewhat limited. However, they were quick to point out that it never became an issue and there was plenty to keep them and the children busy.
With nearby towns to explore, self-catering facilities available and so many activities filling the days, dining choices never detracted from the overall experience.
Would They Go Back Again?
Considering this family had already returned for a second consecutive year, the answer is fairly obvious.
Domaine des Ormes delivered exactly what they wanted from a family holiday: safe surroundings, fantastic facilities, memorable day trips and enough activities to keep three young children entertained from morning until night.
For families considering a Brittany holiday, especially those with younger children, this Rory's Travel Club member's experience speaks for itself.
Two years in a row.
Three happy children.
One unforgettable family adventure.
