Just back from my first group trip to Chicago and what an unforgettable experience it was! As a first time solo traveller, I was a bundle of nerves and wasn’t sure what to expect, but this trip exceeded all my expectations. From the moment we arrived on Thursday, the group felt like an instant family. Our itinerary was jam-packed with activities to make the most of our five days, of which included the magical Christmas Parade down Michigan Avenue, where we soaked up the festive spirit. The city’s skyline tours, river cruise, and exploring Millennium Park were all brilliant experiences. We had full control and flexibility to enjoy our own time, whether it was strolling along Navy Pier or doing a little Christmas shopping at the Christkindlmarket![]()
The food in Chicago was absolutely fab! Deep-dish pizza
, Chicago-style hot dogs, and those warm Garrett popcorn tins were just the start
. The group dinners were a highlight of the trip—there’s nothing like bonding over shared plates and hearty laughter. There were plenty of restaurants that accommodated all dietary needs while still giving us a true taste of the city. On the final evening, a smaller group of us ventured out to the Cheesecake Factory, which became an unexpected highlight. It’s those spontaneous moments, along with the planned ones, that make trips like this so special![]()
What really made this trip extraordinary were the people. The mix of ages, backgrounds, and personalities was fantastic. Everyone was so supportive and inclusive, especially for solo travellers like myself. It didn’t matter if you were there with a partner, friends, or on your own—there was a spot for everyone. We shared laughs, stories, and even exchanged travel tips for future adventures![]()
I can’t recommend a Rory’s Travel Club group trip enough. For just €12 a year, it’s incredible value, and this Chicago trip alone has already made it worth every penny. I’m already thinking of where my next adventure will be! Not only have I made great memories but I have also made new friends and connections from all over Ireland. If you’re on the fence about joining, take the leap—you won’t regret it!![]()
