Day 1

We depart Dublin on our direct flight to Sofia. On arrival you will be met by our tour leader and your local tour guide then transferred by coach to our hotel in Sofia. We are based for 3 nights in a 4 star Hotel. Our hotel enjoys a central location close to the National Palace of Culture and the commercial area of the city.

Day 2

After a late breakfast we go on a panoramic coach tour around the Bulgarian Capital of Sofia and visit the most fascinating places of interest: the forum of Ancient Serdica (the old name of the city) with archaeological discoveries from Roman times. We visit the St. Nedelya square, where 4 places of worship of the main religions in Bulgaria are located next to each other. These are the Orthodox Church of St. Nedalya, the Roman Catholic Church, the Synagogue, and the Mosque. They form a quadrangle, symbolizing the peace between different religions in Bulgaria. Our tour continues with the Alexander 1 square where the Royal Palace and the National Theatre are located, the Sofia University and the Alexander Nevski Cathedral (the biggest Orthodox Church on the Balkan Peninsula. The afternoon is free to enjoy this charming city.

Day 3

After breakfast, we travel by coach to Plovdiv, Europe’s oldest continuously inhabited city, even older than Rome. Today Plovdiv is the cultural centre of Bulgaria and was the European Capital of Culture in 2019. Our guide will do a short walking tour of the Old town with its cobbled streets, ancient theatre, fortress walls, and the Roman Stadium. Our clients particularly enjoy the pedestrianised shopping centre with very reasonable prices. We return to Sofia late afternoon giving you plenty of time to enjoy this beautiful city.

Day 4

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive through the picturesque Bulgarian countryside to the iconic Rila Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nestled in the heart of the Rila Mountains, this 10th-century monastery, founded by St. Ivan of Rila, is a masterpiece of Byzantine architecture. Take your time exploring the magnificent church, marvelling at its intricate frescoes, and soaking in the serene surroundings. Learn about the monastery’s rich history and its enduring role as a cultural and spiritual beacon through the centuries. Following your visit, enjoy a delicious lunch featuring freshly caught mountain river trout. In the afternoon, continue your journey through the breathtaking landscapes towards Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia. As you cross the border, take in your first views of the striking Balkan terrain. Upon arrival in Skopje, check into your 4* hotel and enjoy an evening at leisure to relax and unwind.

Day 5

After breakfast, take a guided tour of Skopje, exploring Macedonia Square with its iconic Alexander the Great statue. Stroll across the Stone Bridge to the Old Bazaar, a vibrant Ottoman-era market, and visit the Memorial House of Mother Teresa, honouring the Nobel laureate born here. Discover traditional handicrafts and admire landmarks like the Mustafa Pasha Mosque. In the afternoon, enjoy free time to walk along the Vardar River or relax at a local café. Overnight in Skopje.

Day 6

After breakfast, embark on a day trip to Pristina, the capital of Kosovo. Upon arrival, visit Mother Teresa Square, home to a monument dedicated to the renowned humanitarian. Explore the Ethnological Museum, housed in a beautifully preserved Ottoman-era building, and discover the Newborn Monument, a symbol of Kosovo’s independence. Don’t miss the Kosovo National Library, famous for its unique and modern architectural style. Return to Skopje in the late afternoon for your final overnight stay in the capital of North Macedonia.

Day 7

After breakfast, travel back to Sofia, with a stop in Kyustendil, a charming town in Bulgaria known for its thermal springs and Roman ruins. Often called the "City of the Sun," Kyustendil offers a glimpse into its ancient past at the Regional Archaeological Museum and the Roman Baths. Continue on to Sofia for your overnight stay.
