It’s a must-try experience that showcases one of Beijing’s most beloved culinary traditions.

11th February 2026 – The Great Wall Mutianyu Section, The Ming Tomb, Changling Tomb

The Great Wall Mutianyu Section (cable car not included):

The Mutianyu Great Wall is one of the most famous and best-preserved sections of the Great Wall of China. Initially built in the mid-6th century during the Northern Qi dynasty, it is older than the Badaling section, which is more widely known. The Mutianyu section spans 2,250 meters and connects with Jiankou in the west and Jinshanling and Lianhuachi to the east. It was rebuilt in 1569 using granite, which helped preserve its structure over the centuries.

The wall here is 7-8 meters high and 4-5 meters wide, making it one of the largest and most solid sections of the Great Wall. It features 22 watchtowers, which were used for defense and communication. The Mutianyu section was strategically important, serving as a northern barrier to defend the capital and the imperial tombs. During your visit, you’ll walk along the wall, marvel at the breathtaking views, and explore the ancient architecture. Please note that the cable car is not included in the visit; however, there are plenty of opportunities to walk along the well-maintained path and enjoy the views at different points of the Wall.

The Ming Tombs – Changling Tomb:

The Changling Tomb is the largest and first-built tomb in the Ming Tombs complex, located just outside Beijing. It is the burial place of Emperor Zhu Di, who is also known as Emperor Yongle, the third emperor of the Ming dynasty. He ruled China from 1402 to 1422. The construction of the tomb started in the seventh year of his reign and took five years to complete, finishing in 1427.

The tomb is situated in a picturesque valley, which adds to its serene and majestic atmosphere. It reflects the grandeur of the Ming dynasty, and the architecture is a prime example of imperial burial practices. The tomb consists of a large burial mound and impressive ceremonial halls, designed to honour the emperor in the afterlife. The Changling Tomb is an important site for understanding China’s royal history, as it is the final resting place of one of the most influential emperors in Chinese history. Visitors will have the chance to explore the tomb’s impressive grounds, including its majestic entrance and beautiful surroundings, which are designed according to traditional Chinese geomancy principles.

12th February 2026 – The Summer Palace with Boat Ride, The Temple of Heaven Rickshaw Hutong Tour

The Summer Palace with Boat Ride:

The Summer Palace is a vast and beautiful imperial garden located about 15 km north of Beijing. Originally called the "Garden of Clear Ripples," it is the largest and best-preserved ancient garden in China. The Summer Palace served as a summer retreat for Chinese emperors and their families. It features over 100 ancient-style pavilions, halls, temples, bridges, and a large lake. The Imperial Family preferred to escape the heat of the Forbidden City in the cool and scenic environment of the Summer Palace. The grounds are designed to reflect the harmonious relationship between nature and man. You will explore its stunning landscapes, pavilions, and magnificent views. Please note that the boat ride on the lake is not available during winter as the lake freezes.

The Temple of Heaven:

Located in the southeast of the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven is a massive complex covering 273 hectares, which is four times the size of the Forbidden City. Built during the Ming Dynasty, it was used by emperors to conduct ceremonies praying for good harvests and offering sacrifices to heaven. The temple is a remarkable example of Chinese religious architecture and is recognized as the largest structure in China dedicated to sacrificial rituals. You will visit the iconic Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, the altar, and other important structures in this sacred space.

Rickshaw Hutong Tour (about 20 minutes):

The Hutong Tour offers a glimpse into the lives of ordinary Beijingers, contrasting the grandeur of the imperial palaces. The Hutongs are narrow, winding streets lined with traditional 100-year-old houses and courtyards. During your 20-minute rickshaw tour, you will be taken through these charming lanes, where you can experience the local culture and see how life was like in old Beijing. The Hutongs represent a vanishing way of life, as many of these old neighbourhoods are being replaced by modern developments. This tour is a great opportunity to understand the daily life and social culture of Beijing’s residents.

The first visit of the day will be to the Qin Terracotta Army Museum, located approximately 40 kilometres from the city centre (about 1 hour by car). This world-renowned site is considered one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century. The Terracotta Army was created over 2,000 years ago and consists of thousands of life-sized terracotta soldiers, horses, and chariots buried in underground pits. These figures were built to accompany Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of a unified China, into the afterlife. Each warrior is unique, with detailed facial features, hairstyles, and armour, reflecting the sophisticated artistry and military structure of the time. During the visit, you will explore the three main excavation pits and the museum exhibition hall, where artifacts and historical information provide context for this immense funerary project. The site has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and is often called the “Eighth Wonder of the World.”

After lunch (not included), you will return to the city and visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, one of the most important Buddhist landmarks in China. Located in a peaceful temple complex in southern Xi’an, the pagoda was originally constructed in 652 AD during the Tang Dynasty to house sacred Buddhist scriptures and figurines brought from India by the famous monk Xuanzang. The structure originally had five stories but was later rebuilt and expanded during the reign of Empress Wu Zetian. The current brick façade dates to the Ming Dynasty. The pagoda is surrounded by tranquil gardens, ancient trees, and elegant halls that offer insight into Buddhist culture and Chinese architectural traditions. Although going up to the top of the pagoda is not included in the tour, you will have time to admire its imposing presence and learn about its historical role as a centre of translation and learning.
