If you're looking for a magical day trip this festive season, Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, London, should be high on your list. Last year, we ventured from Dublin to London for an unforgettable experience filled with Christmas joy, festive lights, and thrilling activities. Here’s how our day unfolded and why you should consider planning your own day trip!
Travel Details
Our journey began with an early morning flight from Dublin to London Stansted, which was smooth and surprisingly affordable. We snagged return tickets for just £60 per person. Once we landed at Stansted around 9 AM, we made our way to the Stansted Express, a convenient train that departs from a station just a 5-minute walk from the airport terminal.
We purchased return tickets for the train at £22 per person. The 45-minute journey to Liverpool Street Station flew by. Once at Liverpool Street, we hopped onto the London Underground and headed toward Marble Arch—Winter Wonderland’s closest tube station.
Winter Wonderland Highlights
Winter Wonderland truly lives up to its reputation as a festive playground for both kids and adults. We had pre-booked our tickets online, which we highly recommend doing to save time and money. Our bundle included tickets for ice skating, a snow slide, access to the ice bar (which came with a complimentary cocktail), all for £63 per person. If you're looking for a more budget-friendly option, you can purchase an entry-only ticket for just £5.
Money-Saving Tips:
-
Book Online: We noticed that pre-booking activities online can save you a few pounds compared to purchasing on-site. If you plan to try some games or hop on rides, booking ahead is a smart move.
-
Bring Your Own Snacks: For families or those looking to save, you can bring your own food into the park. There are plenty of covered seating areas where you can enjoy a picnic without missing out on the festive atmosphere.
Attractions and Costs
We spent six wonderful hours at Winter Wonderland, and honestly, we could have stayed longer! The park is packed with things to do and see, from rides to games, food stalls, and performances. Some of the key prices to keep in mind include:
-
Hot Chocolate: £3.50
-
Churros: £7
-
Games: Most games are around £6 each
-
Big Wheel: £10
-
Pint of Beer: £7
While prices might seem a bit steep, the quality and festive experience make it all worth it. Plus, if you budget in advance or pack some food, the day can be as affordable or extravagant as you’d like.
Our Favourite Experiences
Ice Skating: Gliding under the sparkling Christmas lights on the ice rink was magical! Whether you're a seasoned skater or a beginner, it’s an experience you won’t want to miss.
Ice Bar: Entering the ice bar felt like stepping into a winter wonderland within a winter wonderland. Surrounded by stunning ice sculptures, we sipped on a cocktail served in a glass made of ice, bundled up in our parkas. It was an unforgettable way to enjoy a drink!
Snow Slide: A fun and fast-paced way to get your adrenaline going—perfect for both kids and adults looking for some excitement.
Final Thoughts
After six hours, we were still buzzing with excitement and festive cheer. Winter Wonderland had so much to offer that we could have easily spent more time there exploring all the rides, games, and markets.
